Reach Out to Non-Registered Members
Often it is most difficult to reach those who have never registered to vote and to convince them it is in their best interest to do so. Below is sample language you may use in your e-mail or letter explaining the REALTOR® Voter Initiative. Because NAR’s member voter registration lists are only about 95 percent accurate, please note the cautionary language used in the case that indentified member is actually registered to vote.
Sample Language for a Letter or E-Mail
Copy and paste this sample language into your own letter or e-mail. Replace the brackets with your association's information.
To increase REALTOR® participation and influence in the political process, [State/Local Association Name] has launched a voter registration drive among our members.
While nearly 80 percent of all REALTORS® are registered to vote, we can do better. According to our information, we could not confirm that you are registered to vote. While you may be registered, we would like you to consider taking one of the following actions:
If you know that you ARE NOT REGISTERED, and would like to REGISTER TO VOTE, it has never been easier. Just go to www.realtorsvote.org and register. It’s that simple.
If you ARE REGISTERED to vote, congratulations! We would appreciate your help in keeping our files up to date by going to www.realtoractioncenter.com/vote and confirming your registration. Often we have only a business address on file, which explains why we could not match you to the state voter file.
Also, consider bookmarking www.realtorsvote.org so you can use it to obtain an absentee ballot should you wish to vote early if your state allows it.
[State/Local Association Name] is proud to join with the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® on this important civic effort to increase the number of registered voters and voter participation across the country.
