Ken Calvert, a lifelong resident of Riverside County and 17-year small business owner, represents the 44th Congressional District of southern California. Calvert attended neighborhood public schools, graduating from Corona High School in 1971. He attended Chaffey College in Alta Loma for two years and then enrolled at San Diego State University, where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
The 44th Congressional District, is one of California’s most diverse, encompassing western Riverside County, including Riverside, Corona, Norco and Jurupa, and parts of Orange County, including San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
Last Congress, Rep. Calvert was selected to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, where he currently serves as the Ranking Member on the Select Intelligence Oversight Panel. Calvert is also a member of the Energy and Water Subcommittee, the Interior and the Environment Subcommittee, and the Homeland Security Subcommittee.
In the 111th Congress, Calvert’s priorities have been: supporting our military in the Global War on Terror; improving our local and national economies; strengthening our borders and reforming the immigration system; creating long-term solutions to California’s energy and water problems; working towards the implementation and funding of new transportation corridors vital to Riverside and Orange County’s future; further reinvigorating the nation’s space program; and much more.
As a former REALTOR® himself, Congressman Calvert has been a strong ally of REALTORS® as a Congressman as well. During our long fight to keep nationally-chartered banks from entering into real estate brokerage, Rep. Calvert was the lead Republican sponsor of NAR’s efforts to stop this policy. More recently, Rep. Calvert recruited more than 150 of his colleagues from both parties to sign a letter he wrote that encourage congressional leadership to extend and expand the homebuyer tax credit program.
