This class will provide the real estate agent with an introduction and basic
understanding of what is involved with becoming an Expert Witness in real
estate related matters. The class will cover areas such as what is an expert
witness, who can become one, and why even consider it. What is involved with
working your way up to holding that Expert Witness status, maintaining your
level of competency, working your curriculum vitae and marketing yourself,
finding out how much your time and expertise is worth, and setting your fees
and billing. Finding out who you work for and working with attorneys, as well
as an understanding of the court process is necessary in order to work in this
area. What work is all involved and at what stages of a lawsuit, as well as the
preparation, deposition and trial stages will all be discussed. The real estate
areas of interest of where your expertise can be helpful will be covered, as well
as ethical considerations.
