Dear ,
4th Quarter 2014
Year-End FPC Report
Congratulations on a VERY successful 2014! This year, your
efforts helped NAR achieve a number of policy victories including the Mortgage
Forgiveness Tax Relief Act, which was approved by Congress as part of a larger
tax package and is headed to the President’s desk for his signature. We achieved 100% participation from FPCs on the Call for Action associated with this
measure and for that you should be very proud. We had one other Call for Action
in 2014 on the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA), where unfortunately we only
reached 68% participation from FPCs. While a solid showing, as the front line and
Special Forces of NAR’s grassroots army, we expect an all-in mentality with every
CFA. For those continuing on into the New Year, let’s approach 2015 with
renewed focus and “Joie de Vivre!”
A big thanks to all the States whose FPCs reached 100% on
field reports for this quarter. Those states include: Alabama, Alaska,
Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington, D.C, Georgia, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas,
Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and the Virgin
Islands.
To view the year-end tracking sheet for the FPC
field reports:
*Those who did not
file are highlighted.
Overall, you did great work with 675 field reports filed in the 4th
quarter, 175
of which were in-person interactions. This is a solid effort in a lame duck
session of Congress. Your efforts are certainly recognized. I am proud to
report that in 2014 a whopping 3298 field reports were filed and 1865 of those were personal interactions with Members of Congress.
That’s something to write home about. Thank your for your diligence, perseverance
and tenacity through a dramatic and in several states, long election season.
NAR has a strong foothold in Washington because of your
efforts.
Below are highlights of various engagements
that showcase the meaningful interactions you all had this quarter.
Strong
Relationship Building
Vickie Fullerton –
FPC for Rep Kevin Brady (TX-08): I asked Kevin to speak to the HAR members
at the quarterly brunch we had this morning & he was able to work it into
his schedule…He worked for over 2 weeks retooling his schedule to make this
happen. Kevin presented an overview of the Tax Reform that has been presented
by Chairman Camp & the real estate implications of the 1st draft proposals.
He was very open about the positives & negatives of the draft, but
reinforced the objective, to get something presented, commented on, and
forwarded to the Senate to correct the current US Tax situation. He mentioned
working with Jamie more than once & NAR on the issues that are important to
the Realtors. The meeting had a lot of new members & it was important to
Kevin to speak to his constituents prior to the election. He was so good, and
also addressed the Chairmanship Campaign, which I had mentioned in my introduction.
This was very well received by the members!! We are so lucky to have someone
with his thoughtfulness serving the 8th Congressional District of Texas & I
am so very proud to call him my friend, and serve as his FPC.
Working the
Polls
Julia Evinger- FPC
for Rep Susan Brooks (IN-05): “On November 4, 2014 I helped work the Polls
for Team Susan. My shift was 6AM to Noon. Congresswoman Brooks stopped at my
poll location to talk & ask how busy that particular location had been and
personally thank me for helping. Susan's campaign named me as a Boone County
Coordinator for Team Susan, which included delivering signs, walking in
parades, recruiting poll workers, and working phone banks. In addition, in
September/October, I co-hosted a fundraiser for the campaign and was able to
deliver one of the RPAC checks she was presented along with Maggie McShane from
our State Association. During the course of the campaign I was also able to
develop relationships with several of the Congresswoman's staff members.”
Team Building
Rita Coffey – FPC for
Rep. Bill Keating (MA-09) “Went to the Congressman's event in New Bedford.
Went with two team members and had about 10 minutes with the Congressman prior
to his event. He reinforced the extenders hopefully being taken up right after
the election. Working the polls on election day, I have been working with my
team on getting a group of Realtors together to hold signs and I have been
making phone calls. I will be attending the final event on 10/28/14 in
Falmouth, MA.”
